Thanks for posting Elmore.  I really look forward to doing a few of these.  I'm eyeing the Bluz Cruz this year, but not sure right now if I can swing it.  Definitely OICKR and definitely the Arkansas River Race (both were a ton of fun last year).  Need to get me a wing paddle at some point . . .

Yeah! Thanks Elmore.  Plan on doing as much racing as possible this year and hopefully injuries will not be a big part of my year. Though right now I have big time heel spur which cut my Winter cross country racing season in half. I have/had developed a chronic cough that would not allow me to push very hard without having to stop and expectorate. I have been dealing with this for over 2 years with no success. It has finally been determined that the cough is one of the major symptoms of my acid reflux. I now have to take Nexum twice a day but the cough is basically gone and I am beginning to train hard without complications. The only problem is finding a way to pay for the Nexum.
Thanks again for the posting Elmore.

Thanks, Elmore.

I went to roll practice last night trying to get my head around getting in my boat again.  You know I love my new long boat and can't wait to "go fast" in some of these races.

Can you say victory shuttle, my brother?!?

S

EDIT:  I hope i'm not adding last year's date, but the Maria Montessori website says that their race will be Saturday, April 17th.  I know it's always a fun race and the trophies are AWESOME!

Second EDIT:  Just noticed that this is the same date as the Bluz Cruz marathon. No wonder it didn't make Elmore's list  grin

I have most of these races on my website www.paddlearkansas.com but need to add some.

The ladies at Calico Rock they where going to have a race but didn`t have a time yet.

The Chicago race was a fun trip but wasn`t a cheap trip with all the sight seeing and eating and plays, I didn`t want to race after spending 4 days there messing around.
It is a different race, they start you in groups of 10 boats and its a time trial so you don`t know how well you are doing.
I just looked up last years winning times and tried to get close to them.
We headed home long before they decided who had won. Still a fun trip and paddling thru downtown was a blast.

I sure hope it warms up soon so I can get out and see if I can get rid of some winter fat!!

Put the Laredo Rio Fest on your calendars.  Oct 16th down in Laredo, Texas on the Rio Grande.  It is a long drive but with 30 to 40 grand in prize money worth the trip.  There will be a bunch of us headed down that way from Arkansas.

Okey dokey, I've updated the schedule above to include the Montessori race and the Laredo race.  Looks like the fall is shaping up as the season for those four-hour-type races.
Good to her from you again, Rob.  We should do a few sessions downtown this spring when you have the time.

The Jungle Boaters race on the Mulberry River is March 13th.  Put on by the Turner Bend folks.  Plastic canoes and kayaks only.

Thanks for posting all the info, Elmore.  grin

I just got back from Chicago a few hours ago.  I crossed the river several times this weekend...you have to admit this is an impressive place to kayak race.  My stepson, who now lives in Chicago, went to Washington U. in St. Louis.  His first crew race was down the Chicago river, and he could hardly row for looking at all the buildings!  This wide angle actually flattens the perspective.

The race starts at noon.  It's a 12-miler, starting in the "back bay" of Biloxi and going up Old Fort Bayou.  There's a map on the race's website.  Apparently there will be an incoming tide Saturday afternoon so it won't feel like we're slogging upstream.
What's on the website is about all I know.  Martha and I plan to go down there Friday and find our way around.  There's a pre-race party Friday evening--so everybody can try to get his rivals drunk, I guess--and that should be an opportunity to talk to people who know what's going on.

I've updated the schedule above to include the State Games of Mississippi on June 19.  There will be a two-mile race and a 10-kilometer race in the Pass Christian Harbor, and I think they've got them scheduled so you can enter both if you want.  You need not be a resident of Mississippi to participate.  Last weekend was so beautiful on the Gulf Coast that I'm itching to go back, though I expect it'll be a good bit warmer in June.

I've added another race above: the "Dog Paddle" at Mobile, AL, on May 22.  It's a 4-miler.  It's the same weekend as the 10-mile and 35-mile Syllamo races on the White River.
